How much space do we need to set up the Birth Tub?
With both tubs its recommended to have a level area around 6’x6’ space to put the tub in.

How do we fill the Birth Tub?

With both tubs you will need to fill the tub with warm water at 100 degrees with a new lead free drinking water approved hose. (You can pick one up at the hardware store) You should not use submersible heaters or recirculating pumps in the birth tub. You can add hot water as needed.

How long does it take to fill the Birth Tub?

20-30 minutes depending on your hot water source.

How do we empty the Birth Tub?

The birth tub is drained using the submersible drain pump connected to the hose you used to fill it. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes.

How often should I change the water in the Birth Tub?

Water quality varies from region to region, so a general recommendation is to replace the water and disposable liner after 24 to 72 hours, or sooner if needed. Please note- you must replace the disposable liner if you want to empty the birth tub and refill it. You can buy these from or as needed.

Portable to give you the freedom of movement throughout your labor, and the ability to start and stop at any time. The laboring person remains in control while using this device. The use of a tens unit in labor has been proven to change how a person perceives pain.

Pads can be placed and removed up to 15 times.

TENS units can be used along with other methods of pain relief but should not be used in water.

Although TENS units can be purchased at drug stores or online, our ObiTens units are designed specifically for use during labor.

When planning a homebirth, it is so important to have a capable and comforting midwife by your side. Kara is exactly this. During our pre-natal visits, she listened carefully to my questions and concerns and made sure I had all the information I needed to make the right decisions for my and my baby’s care. Her warm personality made our visits so enjoyable and I always looked forward to them.

For my birth, she created a relaxed, safe space and helped me to feel confident in myself. My labor was very slow going and eventually I had to transfer to Dominican hospital, but having Kara by my side helped me to make that transition as smoothly as possible and keep me reassured.

Despite not having the homebirth I had hoped for, I felt like my birth went as well as it possibly could have done, and my baby and I were (and still are) 100% happy and healthy. Kara was integral to my positive birth experience and choosing her as my midwife was the best decision I could have made. I can’t recommend her highly enough!
