As midwives, our training draws from centuries of knowledge, experience, techniques and alternative remedies.

These treatments may include homeopathy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, massage and yoga … each customized to your specific needs.

Homeopathy is a centuries-old practice, which uses the natural healing properties of plants and minerals to create non-addictive remedies with no dangerous side effects.

Homeopathic remedies are ideal to use during pregnancy, when you may not want to use other conventional drugs. Although we are not homeopaths, we have decades of experience and success treating many pregnancy and birth related issues with these remedies.

Aromatherapy uses natural plant oils to improve your psychological and physical well being. When utilized during your pregnancy, these essential oils can help alleviate many discomforts: from nausea to vomiting, edema, insomnia and stress.

Essential oils also can be added to your massage lotion to promote deeper relaxation on the massage table … or rubbed into the skin of  your belly to help bring on labor contraction.

To ensure your wellbeing, we are proud to use the highest quality pharmaceutical-grade aromatherapy oils available, including a large selection by doTerra.

Acupuncture treatment involves applying specialized needles to specific points along the acupuncture meridians in the body. It often produces a pleasant sensation or noticeable effect, which dissipates after treatment ends.

By stimulating these points, we can prompt your body to work more efficiently. In turn, this can promote the release of endorphins, block the brain’s pain receptors, dilate the cervix and increase the efficiency of your contractions. When used weekly from 36 weeks, it can assist with cervical ripening, preparing the cervix for labor and birth and potentially shortening the length of your pregnancy.

When used during labor, some woman are able to find clarity and provide helpful feedback to their support team. As you can imagine, this is quite helpful for everyone involved.

All of our midwives have an extensive knowledge of herbs traditionally used during the childbearing years which we integrate throughout the practice. We even grow a lot of these on Sharon’s organic farm.

When planning a homebirth, it is so important to have a capable and comforting midwife by your side. Kara is exactly this. During our pre-natal visits, she listened carefully to my questions and concerns and made sure I had all the information I needed to make the right decisions for my and my baby’s care. Her warm personality made our visits so enjoyable and I always looked forward to them.

For my birth, she created a relaxed, safe space and helped me to feel confident in myself. My labor was very slow going and eventually I had to transfer to Dominican hospital, but having Kara by my side helped me to make that transition as smoothly as possible and keep me reassured.

Despite not having the homebirth I had hoped for, I felt like my birth went as well as it possibly could have done, and my baby and I were (and still are) 100% happy and healthy. Kara was integral to my positive birth experience and choosing her as my midwife was the best decision I could have made. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

From the moment I met you I knew my birth experience would be perfect.  I instantly had a trust and bond with you. Everything you have done for me and Keith was amazing. I am so lucky to have found you. What a different experience I would have had at the hospital, right? You gave me the most beautiful birth story and I wouldn’t have done it any other way! I can’t wait for the second now.
